Medikamente
Tons of pharmaceuticals end up in the environment every year and are hardly broken down there. Damage to animals has already been proven. These are X-ray contrast agents, psychotropic drugs, beta blockers, antibiotics, antiepileptic drugs, painkillers, either the substances themselves or their metabolites, etc. Some of these active ingredients are excreted by the body. For example, through urine in wastewater, etc. And some of it passes through the sewage treatment plants just as unhindered as it did before. Around 3,000 active ingredients are approved in the EU. In Germany the situation is not so dramatic. But: The existing knowledge is currently not sufficient to make an overall assessment of the possible risks posed by pharmaceuticals in wastewater, the federal government responded to a parliamentary question at the end of May 2007.
